5/31 – COBIA, Jacks on Topwater!

Today I fished with Art and his sister Jean - who was in town for a few days from Alaska. We had a GREAT time together, and like always, it wasn't just about the fishing but the company and sharing our thoughts on our favorite sport. Art started off the day hooking a MONSTER stingray, on a bucktail, while casting [...]

5/30 – COBIA and Jacks

A solid wave of Cobia came in with this southwest wind. They caught them in the inlet on bait, on the beach on bait balls and on the wrecks. Katie and I took out a couple of our friends for a big fish trip I promised them. We found a solid acre of amberjacks busting on cigar minnows - it [...]

5/28 – BIG topwater Jacks, Nice flounder

I had the pleasure of fishing with Jason, Donnie and Roger again - we had a great day last May and we hoped to do it again. Today it was all about the pull with a few fish for a couple dinners being the secondary objective - my kind of guys! We started off casting to spanish off the beach, [...]

5/27 – AJs on Fly BREAK all your stuff

We're getting to Amberjack City time - the water is warming and they are hungry. Win and I always have a good time together and after a few spanish on the fly (hoping for a late Bonito - no dice), we went and found the Jacks. They ate very well and broke everything. Several took poppers, one took a whole [...]

5/25 – The Mahi are moving in close!

Memorial Day weekend...what a weekend....we had good fishing but very rough seas off the beach. Inshore the spanish were plentiful and even a few Bonito were still to be had at the wrecks! With the light east winds, both saturday and sunday (and the later we had already learned our lesson...), we decided to chase the amazing gaffer dolphin bite [...]

Sandhill Crane in Beaufort

Not fishing related, but pretty cool. Saw this guy down the street from my house, feeding in a cut field. They're a very rare sight in NC as we're at least 2000 miles out of the flyway. He was also huge - about 5-6 foot tall and easily had 1-2 foot on a great blue heron.
