Today I took my friend Paul – who works at freeman’s bait and tackle – out for a little fun fishing. He always helps me and is a good friend – he really needed/deserved a good day.

We started off in the drum right away – paul got 2 (out of the grass!) on topwater quickly. After that we missed a few fish before we found a good school holding on an isolated oyster bar – paul did really, landing several more and missing several. While I got a few – – I was a serious weak link. I pulled hooks on 4 or 5 fish and had several tackle malfunctions. The fish were on topwater all morning but were tougher as the sun started to rise.

After that we did a little prospecting – and we stumbled on to a great speckled trout bite of 1-3lb (15-20″) fish! I was a bit surprised – we caught over a dozen, missing more, catching a couple drum, and I also landed 2 flounder (2 inshore slams for me!).

Ended the day casting to breaking spanish – all fish were released except for 1 spanish I kept for sushi.

What a great – slick calm and great company. Thanks Paul!
