Fisheries conservation is greatly misunderstood and the message often deliberately twisted by those with a financial stake in over-harvest.  Being a conservationist isn’t about only wanting catch and release or reducing harvest. Being a conservationist is about protecting the resource for future generations of sportsmen. It’s about ensuring that our fish stocks remain healthy and have abundance for those who want to harvest a limit for personal consumption and enjoy catch and release. In North Carolina, this common and respected message is often corrupted by the commercial fishing industry and those whose intentions are not concerned with the health of the resource.
